About the Event

The expansion of Connecticut’s Sick Day Law, a ban on non-compete agreements set to begin in September, and a host of recent regulations, laws, and court decisions have created new liabilities for the uninformed Connecticut employer.

In our Annual Legislative Update, we will explain these developments and the EEOC’s final rule on workplace accommodations under the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the proposed national OSHA Heat Standard, and the new FLSA overtime rules.

In addition, we will bring you up to date on the Connecticut health insurance rate increases, federal agency enforcement initiatives, and what to expect from the Supreme Court in 2025.

Among the topics we will review are:

  • The 2024 Connecticut Legislative Session: What Passed, What Failed, What’s Coming;
  • Connecticut’s Paid Sick Day Law: Impact on New Hires, Exempt Employees, PTO/Vacation, and Paid Sick Days; Changes to Your Handbook;
  • The EEOC’s Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act Final Regs: The New and Difficult Accommodation Requirement, and Employer Responses that the EEOC Will Not Accept;
  • The FTC Ban on Non-Competes: Where it Stands, Employee Notice Requirements, and Complying with the Law while Protecting Your Company;
  • OSHA’s New Heat Standard: What it Says to Every Employer, the Anticipated Compliance Date, and Understanding the Workplace Heat Exposure and Control Plan Requirement;
  • Massachusetts’ New Pay Transparency Law:  Is Connecticut Next?
  • What’s Coming: A Look at Enforcement Initiatives, What’s on the U.S. Supreme Court’s Docket and Some Critical Dates in 2023-2024; and Holiday Schedule and Survey; and
  • Mark Your Calendar:  the September-December Compliance Dates.
