About the Event

A new “mental health day” being added to Connecticut’s Sick Day Law, new exempt salary regulations expected any day now from the U.S. DOL, and a host of recent regulations, laws, and court decisions have created new liabilities for the uninformed Connecticut employer.

In our Annual Legislative Update, we will explain these developments and the new federal proposed rules issued on workplace accommodations under the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, a more restrictive definition of independent contractors under the FLSA, the new I-9 requirements, and what to consider when an employee claims “it’s against my religion.”

In addition, we will bring you up to date on the Connecticut health insurance rate increases, the war on non-compete agreements, the first employment lawsuit involving artificial intelligence, and what the National Labor Relations Board’s recent decision in Stericylce means for your need to review handbook policies.

Among the topics we will review are:

· The 2023 Connecticut Legislative Session: What Passed, What’s Coming;

· The New FLSA Exempt Regulations:  Where are they? What is Expected;

· Religious Accommodations after DeJoy- Six things to Consider After the Supreme Court’s Blockbuster Ruling;

· Immigration Compliance:  What You Need to Know About the Updated Form I-9 and Remote Verification;

· The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act:  The Proposed Regulations, Connecticut Differences and Handling the Issues of Pregnancy and the Workplace;

· The EEOC:  9 Things to Consider After the EEOC Reaches its First Artificial Intelligence Discrimination Settlement;

· The Four Day Workweek-Connecticut Developments and the National Trend;

· What’s Coming:  A Look at Enforcement Initiatives, What’s on the U.S. Supreme Court’s Docket and Some Critical Dates in 2023-2024; and

· Non-Compete Agreements:  Connecticut Enforcement and the National Prohibition.

Who Should Attend: HR Administrators, Managers, Company Officers, Payroll and Benefits Professionals, and Insurance Agents.
